Who Has Hearing Loss?

You're not alone — and it's never too early to check.

Anyone can experience hearing loss. In fact, nearly 40 million Americans live with some degree of it — parents, grandparents, friends, and coworkers. The good news is that it's manageable, and people who treat it stay more connected to the conversations and moments they love.

If you're turning the TV up, asking people to repeat themselves, or struggling to follow conversations in noisy rooms, a simple hearing evaluation is the best first step.

Hearing & Brain Health

Hearing aids can slow the rate of cognitive decline by nearly half.

Landmark research from Johns Hopkins found that treating hearing loss with hearing aids slowed the rate of cognitive decline by nearly 50% in older adults at higher risk of dementia. Untreated hearing loss, meanwhile, is linked to a significantly greater risk of cognitive decline.

Protecting your hearing is one of the most actionable steps you can take for your long-term brain health — and it starts with a simple hearing test.

2× the risk
Johns Hopkins researchers found mild untreated hearing loss doubled the risk of dementia.
3× the risk
Moderate untreated hearing loss tripled dementia risk.
5× the risk
People with severe untreated hearing impairment were five times more likely to develop dementia.
